Mold Exposure Test Kit

What is the MycoTOX Test?

Mycotoxins, toxins from mold, are some of the most prevalent toxins in the environment. The MycoTOX test from Mosaic Diagnostics is a urine-based assay focused on 40 species of mold from 11 mycotoxins.

Mycotoxins are metabolites produced by fungi like mold, which can infest vehicles, buildings, and food products. Most mycotoxin exposures in Europe, North America, and Australia are through airborne exposure.

People at risk for mycotoxin exposure include those who work or live in older buildings, those with impaired immune responses or higher levels of oxidative stress, and those who have known exposure to water-damaged buildings.

Mycotoxins can affect human health in several ways, and mycotoxins’ presence in the body can cause serious health concerns, including cancer and autoimmune disease. Also, a higher incidence of autoimmune or neurological symptoms can be found in patients with mycotoxin toxicity.

Which Patients is the MycoTOX Test Best Used For?

Mycotoxin-related symptoms are often vague and difficult to associate with a diagnosis. However, several diseases and symptoms are linked to mycotoxin exposure. These include:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Pneumonia-like symptoms
  • Chronic burning in the throat and nasal passages
  • Coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath
  • Asthma
  • Sinusitis
  • Rheumatic disease, morning stiffness, joint pain, or muscle weakness
  • Heart disease
  • Eye irritation or tearing of the eyes
  • Headache and/or light sensitivity
  • Disorientation and/or dizziness
  • Slower reaction time
  • Memory loss
  • Depression
  • ADH
  • Anxiety
  • Loss of balance
  • Cancer
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhea, and/or bloating
  • Heightened sensitivity to chemicals and foods
  • Skin rashes
  • Kidney and Liver damage

What Does the MycoTOX Test Measure?

The MycoTOX Profile is a comprehensive mycotoxin test. This test applies advanced mass spectrometry combined with liquid chromatography (LC/MS/MS) to test urine samples for very low levels of toxins. It uses advanced mass spectrometry to screen for eleven different mycotoxins, from 40 species of mold, in one urine sample.

The Great Plains Laboratory has also developed artificial intelligence software to improve the detection levels of chromatographic peaks.

What Type of Sample is Needed to Complete the MycoTOX Test?

The specimen requirement is the first- morning urine. An additional important point about this test is that all results are corrected for differences in fluid intake using the creatinine correction. The test is optimal for follow-up testing to ensure that therapies have been successful.
